NYS Ballet presents ‘Cinderella’ | RochesterFirst

ROCHESTER, NY (WROC) – The New York State Ballet will present “Cinderella” with performances at Roberts Wesleyan College on April 2-3.

Tayla Kelley, who will play Cinderella, and Trey Luciano, who will play Prince Charming, discussed upcoming performances Wednesday during News 8 Noon.

“You’ll, of course, get the story of ‘Cinderella’ – which comes with the title – but you’ll experience the story without words in a captivating way while retaining the comedic aspect of the film that we all know and love. love,” Luciano said. “We’re still telling the story without any of that (covers his mouth). You know what I mean? So that’s it (referring to his body) and we’re gonna still make you laugh and make you cry. You will feel all the emotions, just through what we describe with our bodies.

Kelley is thrilled to play the role of Cinderella. “I’m really excited. Growing up, I played ‘Cinderella’ many times, but not as Cinderella. I got to look up to a lot of my role models and watch them play the part. The music for ‘Cinderella’ is l one of my favorites, so to be able to embody that and also be a character that a lot of kids look up to is really special.

The role is not without its challenges. “It’s really a challenge,” Kelley said. “There’s a lot of classical ballet but there’s also a lot of other neo-classical movement. It’s a lot. I dance all the time, so in terms of endurance it’s definitely more difficult than usual. , but it’s also a lot of fun. It’s a fun challenge. It’s fun to feel like I’m progressing and improving over the reps.

“Cinderella” will offer in-person and virtual tickets. The performances follow “The Nutcracker” at Christmas and “The Firebird” last fall. Luciano said: “Going through COVID and not being able to be in front of a live audience for the first time for both of us in over 15 years that we’ve played – to have this year doing nothing and coming back and having it all happen again, c It was such a refreshing feeling to be able to play for people in a live scenario.
